I have a Windows 20000 server a windows 2000 desktop and the Netcomm NB1300 Router all plugged into my hub ATM I have had no luck in getting the router to assign the desktop PC an IP address through DHCP. Has anyone had this working successfully as I am having a few problems.

I have a Netcomm NB 3300 modem/router and it works fine.

Have you checked that there's a link light on the router?

try staticaly assigning an IP in the same subnet as the router (eg 192.168.1.2), and see if you can ping the router etc.

If you can, then check that the dhcp is enabled (duh), and perhaps update to the latest firmware for the modem...

But yeah, one would expect it to "just work" assuming that connectivity is fine.

I can ping it it just doesn't assign IP's to clients. I am just going to use my server to do this.

Question: If the PC that I have Remote desktop enabled has IP 192.168.1.5 and the router is 192.168.1.1 how do I forward the port 3389 to 192.168.1.5 so I can remote desktop. I also have a static IP which I want to be able to use when I am not at home to Remote desktop 218.214.8.165 any ideas.

Well, not sure if I can do much more than be really explicit... In the modem config, advanced settings -> administration/LAN, there are a number of options relating to the DHCP server.

I'd say you'd want:
DHCP Server: Enabled
Address pool selection: User Defined
User defined start: 192.168.1.100 (or whatever)
user defined end: 192.168.1.149
gateway selection: automatic

lease time: 2 days
(wouldn't want a number too big here, even 1hr might be suitable depending on your situation - we use 15 mins at work, half-bridging uses 1 minute)

User Mode: multi-user

submit, save, and reboot, and it really ought to work :-/

It isn't that hard to find... again, in the advanced settings, go to port forwarding.
you just want to forward 3389 on the gateway to 3389 on [internal host].

So, the first box is a sequence number, just leave that, then you just need 3389, 3389, 192.168.1.5
and put one for TCP and one for UDP....

Yes, I have done this howver I still can't connect when I put in my routers IP Address when I put in 192.168.1.5 I can connect but when I put in the 218.214.x.x it gives and error
