Hi, Im wondering if i can access my home computer using PCAnywhere over my broadband connection, and WOL. I have a Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard with 3COM and NVIDIA NIC's builtin, im not sure if they support WOL or what. My ADSL is NATed through a Billion 741GE V2 modem/router. Im guessing i will have to port forward on the router, to my pc. WHat settings do I need in BIOS, software, and on the router?

I went down a very similar path.

In my case, I was thinking of using suspend power-saving mode on my home (i.e. low use) file server; and that WOL would wake it up to serve the request whenever a network packet came along for it.

After buying the NIC and plugging it in I read the manual ... and it only responds to a special "wake up" signal from Microsoft's SMS or similar.

It seems that WOL is for corporate computers, where head office IT wants to be able to remotely power on the users PC to update software remotely. Having been in head office IT asking users to leave their PCs on overnight, I can see the advantage of WOL - but it wasn't suitable for me at home.
