I was wondering what might be the problem with the speed my emails are downloading? It's like I am on dial-up not ADSL. Also loading the PeopleTel site was extremely slow although other sites seem to be responding normally. Thanks

No problems here in Vic. E-mails are downloading without a problem and my 512k is capping out at it's maximum speed. (420-460kbps)
What region are you in Bob ?
Jenelle, what fault finding have you tried with your connection ? What is the prevalence of the problems that you have been experiencing ? Is it your modem sync speed that has dropped to 256kbps, or is that the download speed you are getting from certain sites ?

hi all,
have done isolation tests. pulled everything out ran just inet. same thing. I am back at 1500 today and the drop outs have slowed. its intermittant. I can go for weks with no probs then all of a sudden bam yesterday for example i had 13 drop out between 10am and 8pm. they only last for a couple of seconds. I still had 3gb remaining on my quota so that wasn't the problem. will probably get an email next week saying there was a problem in NSW or some such. Have had that happen several times. I have been with four other providers over the last 10 years and have never had this problem even on dial -up. the package I'm on is great but its painful when you are downloading and you constantly have to go back and start over because if this problem. Have called a few times on other issues and have been stuffed about so much that I have given up. I emailed an enquiry once and it to over a month for a response!
Just frustrated at the minute!: :(

Try using something like Free Download Manager (FDM) for your downloads, it will resume interrupted downloads.

May sound silly, but do the dropouts get worse when it rains ? And then mysteriously improve and vanish a few days after ?

Hi Guys,
will try a download manager, that will help with that problem.
Not really sure about the rain factor, but the dropout just appear, annoy the heck out of me for a few days, the as you say mysteriously disappear
That was kind of the other reason I worked out it wasn't my end. It works most of the time. If its was equipment I would have though that it would be constantly happening not just every few weeks.

Hello all,
Its normal for your connection to drop once every now and then, but you should not be experiencing many drops in one day.
If your connection drops even with the line isolated and you are doing nothing but browsing, we'd generally have faults logged to investigate.

Thanks for responding Albert,
it has been happening intermittently both when browsing or downloading.
1st Nov speed had dropped to 246k even though I still had 3gb remaining on quota and between the hours of10am and 8pm I had 13 drop outs 4 between 12.20pm and 12.30pm
2nd Nov same although speed did return to 1.5mb 17 drop outs between 9.20 am and 5.30pm
this has happened at least 6 times since March when I switched to People. Lasts a day or two then goes again.
Any advice appreciated.

Hi Jenelle,
Just wondered how you went with your intermittant fault. Did you figure out what was the cause ? Sounded environmental to me. Something that intermittantly caused noise or a loss of quality on your line.
Hope it's all now sorted out !

Hi all,
well its happenign again,
constant drop outs from the 3rd Dec especially at peak times, whether downloading or just browsing.
3rd only two at 4pm at correct speed 1500/256
4th between 4.45pm and 6.08 pm 8 drop outs speed dropped to 10.mbps
5th didnt monitor was out most of day, seemed ok at night although still 10. mbps
6th speed dropped to 256.kbps
2.23pm and 4.46pm went ok for a while 5.46pm back to proper speed then 6.58pm
7th 12.50pm, 2.06pm, 2.14pm, 2.42pm, 4.20pm, 4.46pm, 5.40pm, 7.50pm
8th 8.53 am not monitored again until 1.37pm, 1.41pm, 4.17pm, 6.00pm, 6.55pm, 7.24pm, 7.38pm
9th 9am not monitored til 1.53pm, 4.27pm, 6.32pm, 6.33pm, 6.36pm, 6.42pm, 7.00pm
10th 8.33am, 8.57am, then 1.24pm, 1.57pm, 2.21pm, 2.33pm, 2.55pm, 3.21pm, 4.26pm, 5.17pm 5.35pm
11th 9.27am, 9.29am, 10.58 am
These are only the times that I am at the computer, mum had used it and noticed dropouts as well but she didnt know to log the times, have left it during the day and and have returned to a reconnection message so i dont know how often it has dropped out during my absence.
I haven't bothered to report this offically as yet for two reasons,
the last time I had a problem which was not relevant to this, I spent an hour on the phone trying to locate someone who had rang me, was told I had been sent an email, to an address which I never had, game them the correct address, still never recieved the email, spent another hour on the phone the next day yes we have sent the email, that was six months ago, still havent recievec the email.
The time that I reported this before, was basically told it was my equipment and that was it.
I will get a new modem after Xmas and see of that fixes the problem if not I will be terminating the contract when it expires in March, thought they will probably tell me that I have a 2 year contract even though I specifically asked for a one year contract.
Never ever had this probelm before with the 3 other providers I was with over teh past 10 years, should have stayed with telstra, they are over priced but very very reliable.
very dissapointed.

Hello JenelleWoolaway,
Can you please send through a 'technical fault' email to us and I'll take the case and look into this for you.
http://www.peopletelecom.com.au/contact_us.php
When you email in the request you are given a ticket reference can you please send me that number in a private message
Results of logging drop faults are usually faulty DSLAM ports, issues with the phone line, such as breakages, wear/tear, or faults with the customers modem.
With many of these if there is an outstanding fault somewhere it will stay with you regardless which ISP you are with.
