I would like to share my experience with People Telecom so that prospective customers get a fair idea of what to expect from this provider.

I have been a long time customer of People (years).

Incident #1
I recently came off a one year contract with People and wanted to change providers. When I was reaching the end of this contract, I informed People that I would be changing at the end of the last month. I was told that People require 30 days notice to disconnect. This was despite the fact that by the end of the month I was not contractually obliged in any way to People. However, being the fair person that I was, I said FINE, I will go off contract, continue with People for one month, THEN change providers. However....

Incident #2
I was immediately disconnected from People after hanging up the phone (despite weeks remaining on my contract). Being too busy to wait in their phone queues, I went without internet for about a week before...

Incident #3
I complained on Monday 20/4/09. Finally I was told the ADSL code had been removed and that they were sorry. They would re-add the ADSL code as soon as possible. Then...

Incident #4
I received an email to say my internet is back on. However, I still have no internet connection as of today. So....

Incident #5 - THE BIG ONE
I complained again. I find out that I have been signed up to a new contract for one year, and that I have been charged $99 for re-adding the ADSL code!
I NEVER AGREED TO SIGN UP TO ANY NEW CONTRACT, AND I WAS NEVER TOLD THAT RE-ADDING THE ADSL CODE WOULD INCUR A CHARGE! I have been told to get away from People telecom, they are asking for $900 (ie. for me to pay out the contract).

If People charge a cent to my credit card this month, they will hear from my lawyer. I have already drafted a full report to send to the ombudsman.

Prospective customers please note - you are risking your sanity and the security of your credit card if you sign up with People.




I am a frustrated and disgusted customer.
